The Low Down

The short of the long for today...

1. I had just pulled out of our neighborhood heading to work this morning feeling fabulous in a pair of skinny black pants and wedges when I noticed a hole in the side of my pants. I sat there debating all the alternatives and decided that turning around and going back home was the best option compared to my pants splitting down the leg in the cafe at work. So, back home it was and since I was home I changed my entire outfit. Go figure.

2. Today marks my first day of a 2 week free trial of ClassPass. Have ya'll heard of this? It sounds pretty cool. It's basically 1 pass for unlimited fitness classes at participating gyms in your area. The only catch is you can't go to the same gym 3 times in a month. I think that might be tough, but I'm going to see how the next 2 weeks go. Maybe I'll find a new favorite gym!

3. As mentioned previously, I have some exciting work news. I've accepted a new position at work and will be officially starting next Monday. Wooohooo! This opportunity couldn't have come at a better time, and I can't wait to get started!

4. Lastly, our lil' urban garden is growing in leaps and bounds. Last week I decided to use our basil (which looks award winning by the way!) to make a quick sauce to go over chicken. It's definitely in the pesto family.

This has been adapted from Giada:
1 cup fresh basil
2-3 garlic cloves
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
Blend it all together and gradually add in 1/3 cup olive oil

Use it on everything! It's lemony and basily (not a word, but ok) and delicious!

Happy Wednesday!

Brain Dump

Random thoughts for this Wednesday...

::one::
About the picture above, nothing's more classic than the hump day commercial that went viral sometime last year...

::two::
I'm gearing up for a long weekend away in Charleston for a dear friend's bachelorette. It's going to be a great time, and I'm taking along the recipe below as a sweet treat. These are amazing and super easy! I can't take credit for finding these gems, but they're my go to now!

To say that I'm training for a half marathon would be a gigantic overstatement. But... I have been following a half marathon training plan. So, we'll see. Come April 18th, I may or may not be running along side my sister and brother-in-law in an attempt to cross my first finish line. Plus, typing it out makes it real, right?

As I mentioned before, I'm an avid Parenthood fan. But, did anyone else feel a little underwhelmed by the series finale?! I was expecting to be emotionally down for the count.

So far this winter has been pretty mild, but I'm really hoping for just one day of snow before spring. I'm only asking for one day so the city can shut down, and I can get back to binge watching Gossip Girl.

Recently pinned the recipe below, and I'm waiting for the perfect occasion to whip it out.

why not you?

Well, the scary part is over. The first blog post was published and I'm still here to talk about it. In my head writing for the interweb seems like it's only a place for mega bloggers who can easily whip together a crafts project over their lunch break with ease while still looking effortless and pulled together. I on the other hand sit here still trying to figure out Blogger, still in my very unfashionable oversized uggs, and still without a stitch of make up on (unless you count yesterdays mascara). As I'm still geeking out and coming down off my blogging high I was reminded about a saying I've been hearing a lot...

why not you?

It's so overly simple, but packs a big punch. If you know me, I've never been the overly enthused athlete. I've never crossed a finish line... not even participated in a Turkey Trot. My athletic career peaked in high school as the captain of the cheerleading squad which I'm still arguing that yes, it is a real sport! I've always struggled to find the one activity I really like. This summer is when all of that changed. I happened to stumble into an amazing class called M'bala. It's described as combining the physical stamina of strength and cardio with the power of hot yoga. It's amazing to say the least and completely addicting!

Each class is structured the same, but what you bring to the mat that day is the challenge. Why not you is the class tagline and I love that. Why not you? The instructor is a constant source of inspiration for me. Her words and delivery really speak to me. She begins each class with asking us to set our intention for the hour. What are you here to accomplish? I've never felt stronger and more engaged in a workout, and it feels invigorating! As I prepare for today's class I'm going back to the basics and setting my intention as why not be your best self. For now, for the year, for the future.

So, why not you? Why not this year? Why not now? Why not just start doing? So simple, but so clear.

I'm going to leave you with my favorite song that's been on the current M'bala playlist.

Until next time... Happy Friday!
