Fri-YAY!

Happy Friday everyone! Today I'm doing a Follow Friday of my favorite bloggers that I still keep up with both online and on social media. You know the ones that you head to first on your Bloglovin feed? Those that we still consider the pioneers of blogging. Let me know who your favorites are in the comment section! I need some new ones to follow.

Head on over to the blogs/Instagrams below for some awesome content and inspiration!

Loveee her Instastories because she keeps it real! Good mommy stuff

I think I'm liking her Instastories better than her blog these days, but still great beauty content

Foooood - all the food!

This is a fashion blog for those that love that. Her style isn't mine necessarily, but I love her spunk and she has a good workout/health section

Good family/mommy content!

Family, Motherhood, Style, Inspiration, Entertaining

Great food blog!

And as always I'm linking up with Carolina Charm and Smidge of This (who I still call ALiz Adventures!) who obviously have made my list of favorites!

Coffee Talk

If we were sitting across from each other sipping a hot cup a joe I'd probably be telling you this...

...I started using a new mascara and so far it's perfection

...Stumbled across Jen Hatmaker's podcast and loving it. Remember I talked about her book here. She has just come out with a new one and it looks like a fantastic read

...Good or bad that our child won't be dressing up for Halloween? I mean let's think about this I'm already behind the 8 ball on finding one and then our neighborhood isn't really a big trick or treating 'hood and it's dinner/bath/bottle time. So costume or no costume for 2 minutes of fun? Or should we just sit outside and hand out candy to the 1.5 children that will come by?

...Working from home I get the luxury of being subjected to the morning talk shows so I have to know - are we into Megyn Kelly or Ryan Seacrest? My vote is no to both! Hoda Kotb needs to do the entire 4 hours of the Today Show and Kelly Ripa already needs a new cohost!

...I have a new obsession and it's The Morning Breath - it seriously makes me laugh out loud!

...Is anyone still doing Pinterest? or Snapchat?

...Do you have a clue why stores sell baby socks in sizes 0-3 months and 3-12 months? Tell me how that makes any sense? Let's just say the socks lasted about 3 seconds and have ended up in our storage bin for a] another child or b] goodwill! They were way too small!

...Is it over the top to want this Christmas crib sheet?

...Will you still be my friend if I said I really don't like T Swift's new song?

...Whole 30 has been great, but it's the 2nd year in a row (pregnant last year) that I've basically missed out on all the fall seasonal beer. womp womp.

Let's end our chitty chat on a high note with this little pumpkin. I can't with that dimple!!

Final Thoughts!
-Lifesavers... ghee, Tessemae's ranch dressing, Primal Kitchen mayo
-We have produced sooo many dishes since doing Whole 30. Our dishwasher has been on nonstop!
-Still feeling great from the elimination of junk and the sugar that is actually in almost everything. I do think we've probably had too much fruit over the last 21 days, so we've committed to limiting that this week
-I do want to note that everything we've done so far has been to the best of our knowledge. I've checked every ingredient and asked questions if we've been out (which hasn't been much). I even took straight black coffee home from my favorite coffee shop to use our own almond milk.
-Last, one of the strictest rules of Whole 30 is to avoid the scale for the entire 30 days which is fine because ours is away in a linen closest never to be seen again... but I can definitely see a change in both myself and Mr. B. I will uncover the scale at the end and weigh ourselves because I think we both have a round about idea of where we were to begin with.
-So, cheers to entering the last and final week of our Whole 30 challenge journey! :)

Whole 30 Week 2 Recap

As expected this week was harder than last because the newness wore off and reality set in. I think we were successful in most areas and can still improve a few things before our 30 days are over.

So, let's get into it! I've tried to link up compliant brands and recipes where applicable.

Final Thoughts!
-Preparation is key! Traveling with my lunch on Saturday definitely felt good to commit to what we've set out to accomplish.
-Really trying to keep our meals varied, but it's hard. Lots of sweet potato and eggs...
-We didn't weigh ourselves before we started. Wish we would have taken the time to do that so we know the actual results when we finish. Although it's already a win for feeling better as a baseline.
-Sleeping and energy level has never been better!

Happy Friday Y'All!

Let's get into all things good this week!

one | design
The blog got a refresh this week! See how pretty....

two | reading
If you've been reading my blog for any time now, you know that I love me some Elin Hilderbrand! She has just come out with her newest book - Winter Solstice - and I can't wait to get my hands on it. It's the 4th book in her winter series which I wrote about here  and here. Great, easy read by the fire with your favorite candle flickering in the background!

three | latte love
We're still trucking along through our Whole 30 and doing well! I just came across this Whole 30 compliant latte and let.me.tell.you! Wow!! Like straight from a real coffeehouse. Amazingly thick, lattey goodness. Literally tastes just like a latte. Do you catch my drift? Am I being clear enough? No longer do we basic B's have to go spend $23.50 on an average latte. Make it at home! Novel idea I know.

four | ios 11
Has anyone else upgraded to the new iOS on their iPhone? I'm not convinced the iOS 11 is actually here to make our lives better. I think it's a conspiracy to make everyone have to buy a new phone. Battery life isn't great and my phone does more thinking than Einstein just to open and close apps... I no understand???

five | makeup
Has anyone else been sucked into watching live videos on Instagram of bloggers and influencers doing their makeup? Is it just me? Why would any normal person on a regular Tuesday need or want to do a 15 setup makeup process? Why are you showing me this contour stick and shadow palette again? Do I really need to contour to run to Target? And when did we all get obsessed with contouring and makeup palettes and lashes anyway? Did I miss something?

Happy Friday everyone! As always, I'm linking up with Five on Friday for this week's Friday Round Up!

Thoughtful Tuesday

I heard this recently and now I can't remember for the life of me where,
but I'll just leave this here for you parents out there...

Wake up for your children
Not to your children

Let's just say I'm working this 50/50 right now,
but what would happen if I started doing this 100% of the time?

What's your Tuesday thought for the day?

Whole 30 Week 1 Recap

Ok, let's dive into Week 1 of our Whole 30 journey. First and foremost, a recap of what Whole 30 is exactly. It's an elimination diet, not a weight loss diet. It has been designed to bring your body back to ground zero by eliminating the following: sugar, grains, legumes, diary, carrageenan/MSG/sulfites and alcohol. It seems overwhelming when you begin listing out everything you can't eat, so what can you eat - real food! Meat, seafood, eggs, veggies, fruit, natural fats, herbs and spices. If you're interested in learning more visit the Whole 30 site or read the book that started it all - It Starts with Food which talks about the science behind why we're eliminating the aforementioned foods.

So, let's get into it! I've tried to link up compliant brands and recipes where applicable.

Day 1 - official start date Oct 2nd
[Feelings] Felt good! Mostly not hungry.
Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs and 1 piece bacon, coffee with almond milk. I did make these egg frittatas for Mr. B for his breakfast this week. He loved them!
Snack: Banana
Lunch: Grilled chicken, sprouts, bacon, mustard wrapped in lettuce
Snack: Almonds
Dinner: Spaghetti squash with meatballs and a diced tomato sauce

Day 2
[Feelings] Doing great! Surprised at how I haven't had a true "hunger pang" yet.
Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs, avocado, bacon, coffee with almond milk
Lunch: 3 leftover meatballs, sauteed spinach, grilled chicken, avocado, sprouts
Snack: 1/2 banana and iced unsweetened tea
Dinner: Aidells Chicken & apple sausage, roasted sweet potatoes, fennel and apple - yum!

Day 3
[Feelings] Having control over this "food thing" for 3 days gives me power! Impulse control in full effect. Can we make it 30 days?? I hope so!
Breakfast: 2 hard boiled eggs, avocado, bacon, coffee with almond milk
Lunch: Leftover sheet pan dinner
Snack: Almonds
Dinner: Bone in pork chops, roasted broccoli and riced cauliflower

Day 4
[Feelings] Digestively speaking not good. Very tired!
Breakfast: Hard boiled eggs, bacon, avocado, sprouts
Lunch: Leftover sheet pan dinner again
Snack: 1/2 banana
Dinner: Grilled burger, caramelized onions, avocado, 1/2 baked potato with ghee and roasted brussel sprouts

Day 5
[Feelings] So many reasons to fail today! Ran out of eggs and most of our refrigerator is empty. Stomach still not 100%. Really working on how I will feel after 30 days and what changes I'd like to carry into life after Whole 30 like Food Freedom.
Breakfast: Starbucks Venti Jade Citrus Mint Green Tea, avocado and 1 link chicken and apple sausage
Lunch: Leftover roasted broccoli and grilled chicken
Snack: Apple with Justin's almond butter
Dinner: Zuppa Toscana soup
Treat: Sweet potato apple bake

Day 6
[Feelings] Feeling great and well rested!
Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs in ghee, 2 pieces bacon, coffee with almond milk and cinnamon (cinnamon - total game changer!)
Lunch: Leftover soup
Snack: Sweet potato apple bake
Dinner: Grilled steak and green beans

Day 7
[Feelings] Spent the day traveling and attending a birthday party, so many times to fail! Feeling energized and excited about our commitment.
Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs and homemade sausage
Lunch: Apple slices and almond butter + Larabar
Dinner: Leftover soup

Final Thoughts!
-We need to prepare better for snacks and lunches especially for Mr. B who is not always near a microwave or refrigerator.
-No white potatoes next week! They are a gateway drug and should be on the limit list anyway.
-Try to vary veggies and fruit next week!
-Egg frittatas were a total win! Doing them again next week.
-The time it takes to grocery shop has doubled because of how long it takes to check every product ingredient list. You'd be surprised at the foods you think are healthy or basic and are filled with tons of extra things!
-I'll leave you with this image below showing the physical stages of Whole 30 - pretty true so far!

Friday Fall Round Up

Happy Friday everyone! If you live in the City of Oaks or went to NC State then I know you're sitting at your desk with bags under eyes because last night's football game was on point and lasted well past our bedtime. The cardiac pack brought the heat for sure! As always, I'm linking up with Five on Friday for this week's Friday Fall Round Up!

one | leaves
Newest candle edition from Bath & Body Works to our household. Smells so good and I love a good description: This classic blend of spiced berries, Red Delicious apples, and golden nectar brings all the beautiful colors of autumn to mind. Yes, so basic and I'm ok with that!

two | music
I have two all time favorite Fall songs that come to mind when the leaves start changing color - Up 18 North and Carolina in the Fall both by the Kruger Brothers who are a bluegrassy trio based in Western NC. Take 5 minutes to listen! Also, I'm just your typical fall loving girl and searched "fall" on my Pandora and came across the Bonfire Folk station. Legit and will probably be perfectly curated before long.

three | loft
Recently checked out the Loft Outlet nearby which can usually be disappointing and found my new uniform for the fall. Super soft, fleecey interior cowl neck tunic. Looks similar to this Lou & Grey tunic currently available with an extra 40% off!

four | lil boy clothes
I recently bought these two pieces from a Facebook resale group. Waiting for the perfect occassion to bring these out!

five | FOMO
Leaving you with this sappy, weepy fall tribute. Every year at this time I get the worst FOMO for true apple picking, brisk evenings, and glowy sun atop crunchy leaves which we just don't get in the south. So, if you're currently in the middle of it enjoy it for all of us and send us your apple pie recipe when you've finally emerged from the pumpkiny fall induced haze we've all been put under!

What’s Up Wednesday!

I’m coming to you from my phone today! George and I are adulting and getting the oil changed on our swagger wagon (aka our van), so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to say hello.

Do you remember when I told ya’ll about my new favorite lipgloss, Lipsense. I told you I had Aussie Rose when really it’s Luv It. Just realized that this morning. Today I did 2 layers of Luv It and 1 layer of Roseberry for my own look and I really like it!

Also, are you looking for your dinner tonight? Don’t look any further! I originally found this recipe here and have been making these veggies ever since. As in we’ve had it twice in the last week and a half! I’ve been adding sliced chicken sausage on top for an easy complete meal. This is also perfect for our Whole 30 plan. We’ve made it 2 full days, yippee!!

Speaking of Whole 30, my initial thoughts are two things. I haven’t had that terrible sweaty crash from coffee yet and I haven’t really had any hunger pains. So, here’s to hoping things keep going smoothly and that there are new revelations along the way about the foods we’ve eliminated.

Last thing on my mind today may come as a bit of a surprise to some - gray hair! On me. Like a lot. I got my hair colored permanently for the first time a couple months ago and it was good, but too dark. I need to do it again because it is so alarmingly there! In addition to all the new hair growth from being pregnant my usually good looking locks are suffering in a huge way! Any mamas out there know how I feel?

Chaos

That's how I feel this morning about the world we live in. What has the world come to? Catastrophic and meaningless tragedies happening all around us. Furthermore, hate.

For what? Why?

As I sit here, holding my child, I am actually stricken with fear and anxiety for the world he will grow up in. As I watch the news reports come in everyone is plagued with such routine behavior. Why have we become immune to tragedy and chaos?

The feeling I have of not being able to go anywhere - concerts, malls, movies, festivals - continues to grow deeper. It's not ok. I know we need to continue to live our lives, but when will that fear go away? When will the senselessness end?

Words to remember on this Monday morning...
